Public Integrity Unit
The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office is committed to increasing trust and confidence in local government. The Public Integrity Unit fights public corruption by investigating and prosecuting elected and appointed local officials and their immediate subordinates who commit crimes related to their official duties.
Scope of the Public Integrity Unit
The Public Integrity Unit reviews complaints in the following areas:
- Conflict of Interest involving a public entity or public agency
- Theft or embezzlement of public funds or property
- Election violations
- Residency issues for false candidacy papers and voter registration fraud
- Brown Act violations
- Other cases supporting the goal of the Public Integrity Unit
Please note that individuals are elected and appointed to make decisions in local government regarding spending, personnel, planning, and zoning. The District Attorney’s Office is not empowered to question governmental agency decisions unless they violate the law. Our role is to prosecute criminal acts in violation of the Penal Code, Election Code, Political Reform Act, and Brown Act.
How to Report Public Integrity Crimes
If you have evidence of criminal misconduct by a public official or employee, you can submit a complaint using the options below:
