Social Media Terms of Use

The purpose of comment-enabled sites is to facilitate a polite and constructive dialogue between the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office and its constituents on matters of public interest. To further this purpose, the public is permitted to comment on posted items. However, comments must not hinder or distract from useful discussion. This site is intended for the benefit of its users, and any inappropriate or offensive material will detract from its purpose. The following types of content will disrupt, disturb, or impede the purpose of the limited public forum, and are not permitted:

  1. Comments that contain speech not protected by the First Amendment, including obscene, fraudulent, or defamatory statements, true threats, fighting words, speech integral to criminal conduct, and speech that incites violence or illegal activities;
  2. Comments that may compromise the privacy, safety or security of the public, the County, District Attorney employees, or users of the site;
  3. Threats against any person or organization, whether express or implied;
  4. Sexually explicit material or profanity;
  5. Slurs based on race, color, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or other protected classes;
  6. Commercial speech, including promotion or advertisement of a business or commercial interest;
  7. Multiple copies of the same comment, repetition of substantially similar comments, or comments that are clearly off topic to the subject matter being commented upon;
  8. Promotion of, or opposition to, any political party, campaign, or candidate;
  9. Personally identifiable information of any individual or individuals, including, but not limited to, phone numbers, e-mail and physical addresses, social security numbers, or other identification numbers;
  10. False or misleading information, including impersonation of any other person;
  11. Content that violates the legal ownership interest of any party.

The DA’s Office will regularly review posted comments. Any comment found to violate the Terms of Use may be removed and the user may be blocked from that social media platform.

By commenting, you are subject to the Terms of Service of the host site as well as the terms identified on this Social Media Terms of Use page. Posting a comment to this site grants the DA's Office and anyone reading this site permission to copy, distribute, make derivatives, or display the comment.

The comments posted on this site do not reflect the views of the San Diego County District Attorney's Office or its elected officials and employees. Reference in any comment to a viewpoint, product, service, entity, or organization is solely attributable to the individual commenter. Comments may not be reproduced for the purpose of stating or implying the DA's Office's endorsement or approval of any person, viewpoint, product, service, entity, or organization. Inappropriate comments may remain posted for a significant amount of time prior to being noticed and removed by an administrator; however, this should not be construed as an approval of the comment or an exception to the Social Media Terms of Use.

Comments made through the DA's Office's online forums will in no way constitute a legal or official notice or comment to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office or any official or employee of the San Diego County District Attorney's Office for any purpose. Additionally, emails or messages sent via this site may not be viewed or responded to. Communication with elected officials, officers and employees should be made through correspondence to their physical addresses or DA's Office email addresses.

This policy is subject to amendment or modification at any time to ensure the use of this site is consistent with its purpose as a limited public forum.
